Mad River Canoes
Information , Reviews

Mad River Canoe takes its name from the Mad River, a north-flowing river in the state of Vermont. Mad River was founded in 1971 by Jim and Kay Henry, both accomplished canoeists and kayakers who shared a passion for wilderrness tripping and whitewater racing.

It was in their woodshed in Waitsfield, Vermont that the first Mad River Canoe was born out of a need for a higher perfomance, more durable canoe than was currently available. Jim Henry paddled his original canoe, named the Malecite, to his first of many national whitewater championships. Demand soon grew for Jim's fast and efficient designs as more and more of his competitors visited the woodshed.
